Proteron is Right(?)

October 28th, 2003 · No Comments · EN, Geeky

Daring Fireball: Command-Tab Proteron is a small Mac developer; one of their products is LiteSwitch X, a $15 utility that implements Command-Tab keyboard switching. In response to the aforementioned newly improved switcher built into Panther, Proteron’s Samuel Caughron has published an “open memo”, addressed to “Steve et al at Apple Computer”, wherein he claims, more or less, that Apple has ripped off Proteron. Let us count the ways that Caughron’s claims are ridiculous.

John, you are wrong and Proteron is right. It’s not the Cmd+Tab or the application switching that are Proteron originals, it’s the live (or quick or dynamic or whatever) application hiding and quitting using the Q and H keys. That is a GREAT feature that Windows or others did not invent. LiteSwitch X is an incredibly powerful keyboard application switcher, and it’s a shame Apple did this to it’s developers. They deserve all the credit for inovating this.

Don’t they?
