The only thing I want from Leopard, is to fix Apple Mail. I use the thing 10 hours a day or so, and its quirks are getting tired. Here are a few of them that I hope Leopard will get right:

• Crashes 2-3 times every day. It’s gotten worse since I’ve set up an IMAP account. The good thing is that they’ve got the data integrity part right, I had no lost data so far. Even the IMAP pending changes are remembered. But still, come on, this just shouldn’t crash.

• The text-only editor is not text-only. Too often content pasted from another application remembers it’s formatting. You’ll have to go to Rich Text and back to Text Only to get rid of it, and even then you may end up with center aligned blocks or with weird spacing. Ridiculous.

• Convert to rich text warning. When the weird thing described above occurs, when you switch to Rich Text, Mail will alert you that all your formatting will be lost. When you switch to Rich Text. Right.

• Can’t undo? Sometimes, when weird stuff is pasted in the message, there’ the Undo command no longer works.

• No statu bar. The status bar from Panther Mail was removed in Tiger. This just sucks.

• Email signatures format is zany. You can’t just have plain text signatures, they will always be spoiled.

• Support for attached email messages. Being able to forward email messages as atachements and to copy attached emails messages into an mailbox. FIXED in Leopard.

• Random ‘This message has to be downloaded’ errors - Lame.

• Other: forgetting signature/account pairing, weird Save confirmation behavior when editing accounts, etc.

PS: No, switching to Thunderbird is not a solution, Apple Mail is still better despite its shortcomings.
