ssh -ND 9999 user@host

I just discovered this really, really, REALLY hot trick: you can use any SSH-able machine as a SOCKS proxy, and it only takes seconds to set it up. Awesome!

1. Open a shell and run ssh -ND 9999 user@host
2. Activate a proxy server on localhost:9999
3. PROFIT!

That’s it. Awesome!

Thanks Alexander.

By “profit!” you mean using your USA webserver as a proxy in your browser so you can see the real SE results that our buddies across the ocean get?
Or you just wanna watch the online Disney Channel TV thats available only to US Ip’s ? :)

“Faking” your location is one GREAT use for this. Mine is to be able to use any service on any wifi network, like SMTP and IMAP at FOWA.

Can you tell I’m excited? :-)
